Will my insurance or medicare cover the cost of the saunders cervical traction unit?

This is dependent on what country you live in and the type of provider you have. You will need to contact your specific Medicare or insurance provider to find out what they cover and how to claim it.

There are also different ways of purchasing the device, for example, Amazon or a medical device retailer. You can contact the seller on Amazon to see if they charge to your insurance. The same would go for any other retailer.

Where can I get replacement parts for my saunders cervical traction device?

Depending on what part needs attention there are some troubleshooting tips talked about below or you can get the part replaced.

Pump is Sticking What Lubrication to Use?

If your handle is too hard to pump you could try to use a very small amount of WD40 or vegetable oil on it.

Is My Unit Leaking Air?

The pump is designed not to leak in the “HOLD” position. If you notice a drop in the gauge reading when in the “HOLD” position, it may be because you have relaxed or moved slightly. If this happens, return to the “PUMP” position and pump back to the desired force, then rest on “HOLD”.

Things to Check:

Is the pump in the “PUMP” position when pumping?
Is the pump in the “HOLD” position when done pumping and receiving treatment?
Are you lying still? (any movement will cause pressure fluctuation)
Make sure you are pumping slowly
Make sure all connections are tight (pump, hose, cap, and gauge lens)

If There Is a Leak:

Check the air hose and connections at the hand pump for leaks.
Gently tighten what you can as necessary. Do not over-tighten as the threads may strip.
POP test with no one in the device. Pump up the pressure until you hear the device “pop” then rotate the gauge to the RELEASE position. Now proceed with your treatment.

How Can I Replace My Pump?

If your pump is still not working you can easily replace it. You can find this part on Amazon for $69.95 by clicking here. Otherwise you can call the manufacturer’s repair division at 1 800 862 2343.

Head Strap is Slipping How to Fix?

If the Velcro is matted down with hair or just from overuse you can first try to clean it with a toothbrush and some soap and water. Get all the hair and debris out and let it dry before using. If this does not work, you can order a replacement head strap by calling the manufacturer’s repair division at 1 800 862 2343.

What is the Difference Between the New and Old Saunders Cervical Traction Units?

The oldest model of the Saunders Cervical Traction unit has the model number 100399 and you can still find it on Amazon here. This one comes with a larger hard cover case.
Now they have the new model (199594) that is called the Saunders Cervical Traction Hometrac Deluxe that basically is softer and lighter so it is much easier to transport. It also comes with a much smaller carrying case that is made of soft material. You can find the new model by clicking here.

I have firsthand experience of battling sciatica pain for over half a year before I found complete recovery. It was due to miss diagnosis and running into the wrong doctors for advice. It wasn't until I found the right physiotherapist that I found myself starting to recover but I reached a plateau and had to find something to fully recover. For me that was lumbar traction and it was truly my saving grace to finally be able to do the activities I love doing again.
